Where to Get a Refreshing Drink and Something to Eat

Welcome back to Maren's Abroadventures!

This week, I would love to share with you my favorite coffee shops, bakeries, and even a place that specializes in matcha in various forms.

A Casa Portuguesa

Bakeries have always been one of my favorite places to go, no matter where I am, and finding this one above made me feel way less homesick. Not only does this place serve delicious pastries and have a wonderful staff, but it also holds special significance for me because part of my heritage is Portuguese, so I have grown up with this kind of baking my whole life. I have enjoyed coming here

This is a hidden gem found only 5 minutes from the Fontana exit when riding the L3 metro. It is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Gràcia, and it is so nice to walk around near this bakery since there are so many coffee shops and other hidden gems surrounding the area.

SUN Coffee & Bakery

The staff at SUN is probably tired of seeing me in here almost every day, but the variety of food and drinks means they have something for you no matter what you're craving. In comparison to my apartment, it is just across the street; however, lots of tourists enjoy coming here as well since it is so close to the Sagrada Familia. I personally am a big fan of their smoothies, so I usually try a different one each time. My favorite smoothie so far has been "Nube," which is just strawberry and banana, but it is so good.

They also have so many types of pastries, pizza, crepes, waffles, and sandwiches, which they rotate the selection every day as well. For drinks, they have coffees, smoothies, and boba. Their chocolate crepes with cream and their breakfast sandwiches are my go-to. As a tip, they also have an upstairs area with just tables and chairs, which may be a good place to study sometimes.

BO&MIE

While this is another popular tourist destination, as it is next to the Sagrada Familia, it has quickly become one of my favorites to visit. The people are so kind, and it is also only women working there, which makes for an even more comfortable experience when ordering. I love getting their iced hazelnut latte or their iced chai tea. They have a wide range of foods that continue down the whole store, but their tuna sandwich has actually become my favorite, which says a lot because it's hard to find good tuna salad anywhere. I also highly recommend BO&MIE's curry chicken sandwich.

Matcha Crew

If you're looking for something different or maybe coffee isn't your thing, Matcha Crew is a great alternative since they have a big selection. I like how they offer matcha in so many ways, so you can get matcha with fruit, or boba, or even order matcha soft serve if you want something sweet. This shop doesn't have a huge selection of food items to take, but what they offer is very appealing. Typically, they have matcha crepe cake, which I enjoyed, mochi, and cheesecake.

Each of the locations listed are excellent options, and I highly recommend trying them for yourself.

See you next week!
