Fashion in Spain

Spanish Street Style 🇪🇸 What are people wearing in 2024.Winter fashion outwear.learn how to dress

This week, I will be discussing the fashion in Barcelona. You may find this blog to be helpful when packing to come to Spain, or if you would like to be more aware of their style. Try not to overthink when packing, since the stores available here constantly have new arrivals to look through.

While I do always recommend wearing the clothing you enjoy and are comfortable in, you may find that there are so many ways you can elevate your look by adding simple accessories or a pop of color. I have found that most people are not worried about what you are wearing, and you will not get crazy looks for wearing sweatpants or leggings, especially since lots of people here are tourists or international students.

September and October are still typically warmer months, until it gets a little cooler in November and December. Compared to the weather I am used to in Oklahoma during this time of year, is has been amazing temperatures ranging from 50-85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you decide to come to Barcelona during the Fall semester, I would recommend bringing a range of clothing, from some skirts, dresses to jeans, sweaters, and maybe even a scarf. I have noticed that shorts are not very common here; you will mainly see jeans or some kind of pants, or maxi skirts on women.

T-shirts on women are not as common as I had thought before arriving in Spain. The women in Barcelona tend to wear more flattering pieces of clothing, whether it is just a top or an exotic piece of clothing.

As it gets cooler out, the people in Barcelona like to layer clothing to keep themselves warm. Instead of a shirt and a large puffer jacket, it will be more common for them to wear a long-sleeved shirt, with a trench coat and a scarf.

If you are worried about not having the best selection of clothing to bring, do not worry. Passeig de Gracia has plenty of large stores such as Zara, H&M, Bershka, and Stradivarius. My favorite stores to shop at while in Barcelona are Stradivarius and Bershka. It is true about what they say, you will definitely buy more clothing abroad, so try your best not to overpack!

For shoes, I would highly recommend bringing one pair of athletic shoes for walking around different countries and when hiking. You also should consider a pair of everyday shoes, such as Sambas, New Balance, or even sandals, to go to school or hang out in. Flats among women are also very popular here, and you could even buy a pair of flats at a store called Kokua in Barcelona!

A personal tip from me: If you have friends or family come to visit you at some point during your time abroad, see if they are able to take some of your clothing and souvenirs back with them. My family came to visit me at the end of October, and I was able to clean out my closet of my summer clothing and articles I haven't worn, and also the souvenirs I had collected, to have more room for when I head back home in December. Hopefully, this method will help to not have to pay for more luggage on your flight home.

See you next week!
